We often get asked for the difference between the diesels. After reselling thousands, here's our take:
6.0 Powerstroke
- More power
- Better transmission
- Better ride
- Nicer interior
- Less reliable with stock EGR cooler
- Injectors fail more frequently
7.3L Powerstroke
- More reliable
- Underpowered
- Higher priced per mile
- Expensive to upgrade power
We joke that 7.3L Powerstrokes are reliable for the same reason as Hondas -- neither make any power. There's some truth to it. But if a 7.3L diesel satisfies your mission profile, it's hard to go wrong. 6.0L diesels take a lot more evaluation to make sure you don't pick up a bad one
